About Leamington

Leamington is a town in Essex County, in the southwestern tip of Ontario, with a population of approximately 29,000 residents. Known as the 'Tomato Capital of Canada,' Leamington is famous for its greenhouse vegetable production, particularly tomatoes, and its agricultural economy. The town's location on Lake Erie provides a moderate climate ideal for agriculture and outdoor recreation.

Leamington is home to the Heinz Canada (now Highbury Canco) tomato processing plant and extensive greenhouse operations that produce vegetables year-round. The town features a attractive waterfront along Lake Erie with parks, beaches, and marinas. Point Pelee National Park, located just south of Leamington, is one of Canada's most important birding destinations and the southernmost point of mainland Canada. The town has a significant seasonal population and serves as a gateway to Pelee Island.

Highway 3 runs through Leamington, connecting to Windsor (approximately 60 km northwest) and other southwestern Ontario communities. County Road 20 (formerly Highway 18) provides coastal access along Lake Erie. Erie Street serves as the main commercial corridor through downtown. The town's waterfront provides marina facilities and ferry service to Pelee Island. Leamington's southern location in Ontario gives it the warmest climate in Canada, supporting extensive greenhouse agriculture and making it a popular summer destination for beach activities on Lake Erie.
