Mississauga is Ontario's third-largest city with approximately 720,000 residents, located directly west of Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario. As a key component of the Greater Toronto Area, Mississauga has evolved from a collection of small communities into a major urban center with its own distinct identity. Downtown Mississauga centers around Square One Shopping Centre, one of Canada's largest malls, and features modern high-rise development creating a true urban core. The city's waterfront along Lake Ontario includes parks, marinas, and the scenic Port Credit neighborhood. Mississauga's diverse population represents over 200 ethnic backgrounds, making it one of Canada's most multicultural cities with vibrant communities throughout its various districts.

Major transportation infrastructure includes Highways 401, 403, 410, and the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), all converging in or near Mississauga. MiWay operates the municipal transit system with extensive bus routes, while GO Transit provides regional rail and bus connections to Toronto and surrounding areas.
