About Windsor

Windsor is a city of approximately 230,000 residents located in southwestern Ontario directly across the Detroit River from Detroit, Michigan. As Canada's southernmost city, Windsor holds the unique distinction of being south of parts of northern California. The city's economy has historically centered on automotive manufacturing, earning it the title "Automotive Capital of Canada," with major facilities from Stellantis (Chrysler) and numerous automotive suppliers employing thousands of workers.

The downtown waterfront features parks along the Detroit River with views of the Detroit skyline, the Art Gallery of Windsor, and Caesar's Windsor casino resort. The Ambassador Bridge and Detroit-Windsor Tunnel provide vital international connections, serving as the busiest Canada-U.S. border crossing with billions in trade crossing annually. University of Windsor contributes to research and education, while the city's diverse population includes significant Italian, Middle Eastern, and other immigrant communities.

Transportation infrastructure includes Highways 401 and 3 running east from Windsor, with Highway 401 being Canada's busiest freeway. The E.C. Row Expressway provides east-west movement through the city. Transit Windsor operates the municipal bus system. Windsor International Airport offers regional flights, though many residents also use Detroit Metropolitan Airport across the border. The proposed Gordie Howe International Bridge will provide a new crossing downstream from downtown when completed.
